| Executive Director Report
August 2 2010
Dear Friends,
I’ve I’ve been inside the doors of the New Horizon Ministries’ Drop-In Center many times over the years. I’ve walked up the long wooden stairs for board meetings, trainings, and prayer. I’ve squeezed together with hundreds of others for Christmas dinners and served meals as part of a food group. Every now and then, I’ve dropped by the office just to say hello to the staff and volunteers -- people who always greeted me with the same warmth and compassion they lavish on the young people God has entrusted to their care.
On August 24, 2010, I came to New Horizons for the first time as the interim Executive Director. The entire staff read together the words of Jesus in Luke 4:18-19 proclaiming His anointment to preach good news to the poor and freedom to the captives. Then we prayed and anointed each other to continue following Jesus in service to young people on the streets.
New Horizons’ staff and volunteers consistently present the face of Christ to young people who have been forgotten and discarded. That’s why I have supported New Horizons for almost twenty-five years. I now hope to use my experience with other non-profit groups and as a law firm partner to help prepare New Horizons for its next executive director. I’m humbled by the opportunity to stand alongside these servants who have welcomed me so many times the same way they welcome street young people.
Some of you I know and others I hope to meet during my time at New Horizons. I hope some of you will even drop by and walk up the long wooden stairs to see the ways New Horizons loves and cares for kids on the street.
In Christ’s Love,
Mary Steele
